Team Hoyt

Rick Hoyt was diagnosed with a spastic quadriplegic with cerebral palsy at birth. His parents, Dick and Judy, were told that Rick should be institutionalized because there was no chance at recovery. The couple still fought to have Rick involved in as much as possible. When Rick told his father that he wanted to participate n a 5-mile run for a Lacrosse player who had been paralyzed in an accident, Dick agreed. He pushed Rick in his wheelchair the entire 5 miles. After the race, Rick told his father, "Dad, when I'm running, it feels like I'm not handicapped."

This moment sparked the beginning of their journey together. The pair has completed over 1,000 races, including marathons and triathlons. Rick was once asked, if he could give his father one thing, what would it be? Rick responded, "The thing I'd most like is for my dad to sit in the chair and I would push him for once."
